Professor David Goitein is a Senior General Surgeon who specializes in; Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery.
Prof. Goitein began his medical education at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel where he graduated as MD in 1994. He then took up an internship at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem before starting his residency there in the Department of General Surgery. In 2000 he moved to the USA where he started a year-long Senior Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in the Department of General Surgery. In 2001 he returned to the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem as Chief Resident in the Department of General Surgery until 2003. The following year Prof. Goitein made another move back to the USA to the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh where he took up another year-long Clinical Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery.
In 2005 Prof. Goitein moved back to Israel where he assumed the position of Staff Surgeon at the Department of Surgery at Chaim Sheba Medical Center and in 2014 (again at Chaim Sheba) became the Head of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, both positions he currently still holds.
Prof. Goitein is a member of many medical associations. In Israel he is currently Associate Professor of Surgery at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel Aviv. A member of the National Steering Committee for Bariatric Surgery and a board member of the Israeli Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Internationally, a member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
