We’re here to help. Explore our FAQs for detailed information on treatment, travel and patient care with Sapien Medica.
General Questions
What is Sapien Medica?
Sapien Medica is a UK clinically-governed cross-border care navigator and facilitator, connecting patients with the world class healthcare providers around the world.
Who is Sapien Medica?
Sapien Medica was founded by Dr. Sanjeev Silva a UK based ENT Consultant with 25 years of experience working in the NHS.
Which hospitals and clinics does Sapien Medica work with?
  • Memorial Hospital, Istanbul, Türkiye
Prices
How much does it cost?
Sapien Medica tailors options around every patient’s budget without compromising on the quality of care.
Can I just go to the hospitals directly?
You can but Sapien Medica has negotiated discounts with its partners which we pass on to you. So it would be more expensive for you to book directly with the hospital.
Can’t I just book my own travel?
Yes you can, but Sapien Medica has also negotiated preferential rates with airline companies and hotels and these discounts are also passed onto you as part of your package.
How do I pay?
In order to confirm your booking we require a 10% deposit before you travel and the rest is paid to the hospital/clinic directly upon arrival.
Quality & Care
How do you select your hospitals?
Our clinical partners are accredited to world class standards and selected through rigorous research for each treatment we offer and personally vetted through our Founders network of contacts.
Do you select your patients?
No, but patients must be medically fit for travel and surgery. All hospitals will require a pre-operative assessment to confirm you are fit for treatment.
What happens if something goes wrong?
While complications are uncommon, any necessary treatment is handled by your contracted hospital; they should be your main contact. Sapien Medica acts solely as a facilitator and does not deliver medical care. Our partner hospitals are internationally accredited and possess the required infrastructure and protocols for emergencies, in addition to holding medical liability insurance, which we recommend you verify is included in your agreement. We also suggest you obtain separate medical complication and travel insurance apart from what the hospital provides.
What assessments and follow-up are involved?
Your safety is carefully monitored throughout every phase of the process. Initially, a fit-to-fly assessment is advised based on your individual health status. Prior to surgery, a comprehensive pre-operative evaluation will confirm your suitability for the procedure, and treatment will commence only after clearance is granted. Upon discharge, you will receive another fit-to-fly assessment, ensuring travel is permitted solely when deemed safe by your medical team. A few weeks after your return home, a follow up teleconsultation with your surgeon will be scheduled to evaluate your recovery and address any outstanding concerns.
Tier 1
  1. Reconcile 6 vs 8 procedures. Update the FAQ ("we currently offer 6 procedures…") and the FAQ contact-form dropdown to include IVF and Prostate Cancer, matching the nav and homepage. Decide the canonical count and apply it everywhere.
  2. Fix the entity line. Change "Sapien Medica Private Limited" in the footer to the correct UK registered name and append the Companies House number and ICO registration number. This resolves the offshore-vs-UK ambiguity.
  3. Unify pricing. Remove orphan prices from the homepage search filter (£2,070 / £3,530 map to nothing displayed) and add the missing Cataract and Gall Bladder prices. We should either show all package prices or none, not a partial set.

Tier 2 Add a "what's included " breakdown under each "all-inclusive from £X" —flights, transfers, hotel nights, hospital nights, implant/consumables.
NHS comparators per procedure, "typical NHS wait of over 18-weeks from referral vs treated in 2-3 weeks with Sapien. 40% of NHS orthopaedic patients typically have to wait for over 12 months to receive treatment.
Will I be able to communicate in English?
Yes - Every chosen partner has English speakers throughout their hospitals/clinics at all levels, whether clinical or administrative.
How long do I have to stay in hospital?
This depends on the procedure. Orthopaedics will require a longer stay but you will receive a full itinerary when you book.
Treatment
Which procedures do you offer?
We currently offer 6 procedures. Hip replacement, Knee replacement, Sinus surgery, Gall bladder removal, Hernia repair and Cataract surgery.
How long does it take to schedule a treatment?
Once a request is submitted we work with the hospital and travel team to tailor your itinerary and depend on the complexity of the procedure. Simpler procedures take a few days, more complex procedures may take a week to schedule.
How soon after my treatment can I return home?
This depends on the procedure, with Orthopaedics requiring at least 1-2 weeks. Once the Doctors have confirmed you are ‘fit-to-fly’ you can return home.
Travel
Can I bring someone along with me?
Yes, absolutely. We understand that travelling abroad for a medical procedure can be an anxious experience and so a travelling companion is welcome.
How will a travelling companion affect the cost?
A travelling companion will receive the same discounts as the patient regarding flights and accommodation.
If I travel without a companion what assistance should I expect?
From the moment you arrive at the airport you will be fast tracked through the airport to your flight. You will be met at your destination and transferred to your hotel, the hospital and back. All transfers to and from the hospital are included. We will always have someone close by to assist you.
